A Smile to the West

*Date Entry: August 12th, 1849 A Black couple moved in about a month ago, they have dreads and appear to be very spiritual. I haven't been very religious or spiritual for a long time. It didn't do me much good in the war, so I figured "Why bother?". I introduced myself to them and asked "What brings you here?". They told me that they were able to escape Slavery, but every town they go to, they are chased out of it. They've been trying to find a home for a while, hoping they can make one here. I welcomed them to the Town and showed them around. The Lady, Rose, said she always wanted a Saloon. Make it a place anyone can go too. They said their names were "Augustin" and "Rose". I told them that Augustin was a strong name, and he thanked me. He didn't really have a name until he was freed. Was usually called a "Negro"? Or something along those lines. I asked if Nobel would be alright, and he liked it. I told Rose that her name was Beautiful, and she thanked me. She said she much preferred it to her old name. Date Entry: June 16th, 1850 Within a year, the Saloon was built, she named it “La Salon Des Rose”. I loved the name. She offered me a position getting her food and I accepted. I took the first offer she gave me, and I realize I could have gotten much more. But I didn't see a reason too, I just watched to be on guard for Free. Date Entry: May 29th, 1851 Almost a year later. and a new Man joins the town. He goes by [[Bloodhound]]. I don't know why, but I will see.*

*Date Entry: July 28th, 1851 What felt like the hottest day of the year, a black man appeared in town. His skin was almost charred, he was only a little shorter than me. He always wore a 10 Gallon hat. He seems to only take it off when he enters someone's home, talking about how he has enough bad luck as is, he doesn't need more. I managed to grab a beer with him at Le Salon Des Roses. I thought a cold beer against the blistering Sun would create a more welcoming mood, instead, he pushed me away. We were almost like a Tarantula and a Cotai. We were borderline in a Fist fight before Augustin broke us up. I don't know what it was, he would try to fight Augustin and only be polite to Rose, but then he learned Rose was taken and would begin ignoring her. He resided at the edge of town, away from everyone else, but that was for the best. Date Entry: August 1st, 1851 He would eventually run out of money, and started askin for work. Initially, I declined, but Rose and Augustin told me to give him a second chance. So I let him help me on the farm. I told him to be here at 4 am and we won't be done until 4 pm. He gets his money once a month, and I would buy him lunch. He laughed and agreed to the terms. Once he arrived, and we got to work, he was a hard worker. Normally, the people who come by give up after the first day, but he was a natural at it. That night, I got him a beer and I set up some bottles and turned some extra clay I had into a ball and we bowled. He let the cat out of the bag on why he is here. Date Entry: August 2nd, 1851 The next night, he gave what was described as "The Tea"? He told me that back in Arkansa, he was a Slave named "Apollo". He betrayed other slaves and sold them out so he could move up. Eventually, he fell in love with a White woman. They would even have a child together. As he was working towards getting his freedom, it was learned that he bred with a white woman. A group of the men found out where he lived and they went to his house. He was grabbing water as the men broke into his house. They thought he was hiding, so they burned the house down. When he saw the flames, he ran. He ran here, hoping for a new life. Hoping that he can change. Date Entry: August 3rd, 1851 After that, I asked him for a Pair of Scissors. He found some in his house and gave them to me. I tied a Thread to it and told him to never untie. He asked me why, but I didn't have the strength to explain what it meant to him. I could only look at the pair my daughter had that I kept in my room. All I could tell him will change it, in a way that will hopefully make him happier. *With Ahiga, Hound and Jesús completed their work in 8 hours, instead of 12. Ahiga was very skilled in Farming. Their ways were different than Jesús', but he didn't judge, as he still got the results he desired. He will thank Ahiga and offer them a job on the farm, which Ahiga will accept. Soon after, as Hound and Ahiga walk home, it is about High Noon as a Carriage with a flag of the Confederacy hanging out approaches the town. The driver of the carriage is a white man, wearing a Confederate uniform. He isn't too big or small, and has very average facial features. However, a very tall man sits next to him. He is well over 6 feet, his skin is as pale as a Ghost. He wears a black hat, a black uniform that signifies he is a General. As he stands, he looks down on Hound and Ahiga. He gives a brief look of being appalled before bending down to talk to his subordinate. The soldier says.* "We want to know who runs this place." *In an aggressive tone.* "Whose askin'?". "Watch your tone, boy! Show some respect for General Joel Voiden! *Ahiga will begin to get mad, as they clench their fist.* "Oh, my apologies, Sire!. *Said in a sarcastic tone, Hound will then sarcastically bow, and Ahiga will start to lighten up and sarcastically join in.* "Stop that!This is serious! Your country is a-callin!. "You must think I don't know dung for wild honey, if you think I'm answerin!. "Not you! We want the White Men. Them Bluebellies are givin us a run. And we's a draftin.". *Hound will turn to the General Store, where the two white men are hanging out in the porch.* "Hey, Jesse, Carson. Some Bottom feeders wantta draft you for a war, you want to join'em?". . *They both exclaim* "Hell Nah!". "You tired of wastin our time yet?" *He will rest his arm on the Carriage as he says that.* *The tall man will begin to get frustrated.* "This isn't a choice for you to make, boy! Now who leads this Yellowbelly town! *Hound will sigh then bring them to the Saloon. He will point to Rose and say.* That's your Huckleberry. *The large man will lose his patience and then scream* "I am tired of these games! I will return in 5 days with my forces!" *As he angrily returns to his carriage. *As he enters the Saloon, he sees a fist fight between Augustin & Ahiga vs. 2 unfamiliar men have never seen before. Both seem to be in the Military, but One is an average looking man, nothing seems very special about hit. And the other is a very tall man. He is well over 6 feet, his skin is as pale as a Ghost. He wears a black hat, a black uniform that signifies he is a General. Augustin quickly knocks the Soldier out and Ahiga tries to hold the man off. As the General is hit with an assortment of chairs and mugs, he appears unaffected. He grabs Ahiga by the throat, and slams them through the Table. As this happens, Zaiyuan enters and sees what happens. *Date Entry: March 4th, 1853 It feels especially cold today, coincidentally, they call him the "President", Franklin Pierce was just elected. I don't understand how Mexico had already abolished slavery for over 15 years, but America still does this. While I was reading the newspaper, Hound knocked on my door. I met a man with a name I can't really pronounce... I apologized to him and he said "Just call me Zai". I noticed that he had a very large smile. I asked if I could call him "Smiley" and he liked it. As we talked, Hound and I learned that his wife was kidnapped and brought to America about a Year ago. He spent much of his time getting enough money to come here and then spent the last few months searching around. His search brought him from Shanghai, to California and then, eventually here. He, sadly, doesn't have any more leads at the moment and will be staying here until he can find her. I regret calling him Smiley. Date Entry: September 1st, 1854 We managed to find a lead! According to the town over, there is a man with a Chinese wife. She doesn't appear to speak much English or talk much. She lives about 23 miles out. Hound, Smiley, Nobel, and I head out tomorrow. Date Entry: September 3rd 1854. We arrived in town, and we found the man. She was sold off as the man could no longer afford her. We left Smiley alone with him. It reminds me of Smiley. He hasn't stopped looking, but he is holding on. But today, Hound found someone new. Her name is Sara. She is a very kind person. She immediately started cooking and her food is wonderful. I hope she stays. I will bring Smiley to cheer him up. I think that makes about 30 people in the town. We are growing, slowly, but we are growing. Date Entry: August 22nd, 1858 I notice Hound has a new Scarf. It was a very lovely blue. I asked if I could call him "Azul", sort of a reference to Huitzilopochtli. I didn't have the heart to tell him it can also mean Mourning, as well as Trust and Serenity. After saying that, I think Rose might be influencing me. Date Entry: May 18th, 1860 Smiley has found a new lead, we will have to travel [[to Tucson]]. It will take about a fortnight to get there. *Just outside of town is the local water well. Line up some empty buckets he had from home and start pumping for water. As the water gathers, a black male approaches him. He is only a little shorter, but he is a few shades darker. He keeps his hair dreaded, and has a smaller stomach, but he seeks to be able to lift about as much. His garbs appear to be a similar Cowboy outfit, with the major difference being that he opts for a Mountain Man shirt, mixed with Shaman attire. He is then greeted.* "Hey, Augustin." *He will then stick his hand out for a handshake* "Wat up, Hound." *Said in a thick, Cajun Accent* *After shaking Hounds hand, they will both snap as they pull their hands away.* *He will then ask, somewhat quickly* "Would chu mind helpin me take some wada to da Saloon " *Hound will think for a moment* <img src="https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~prsjr/genealogy/occupations/farm_gifiles/pg443d_waterm.jpg"> [[Visit Le Salon Des Roses]] "All to pieces, I will" [[Head to the Farm]] "I'd love ta, But I gotta see Jesus." *The next two days would be full of torment for passengers on the main deck. The upper deck learned what would happen with their leftovers and would dump them on the floors for the main deck to clean up. If they weren't on the floor, they would be fed to their pets or dumped over into the water. The children would be told that the food would be better serviced to an animal than the main deck. The upper decks would get increasingly more filthy and the work would become more difficult. Even for the chefs, the upper deck would demand increasingly more elaborate and ridiculous foods. From something like an Apple Pie, to impractical foods like Hunter's beef, they would continue to demand things from the chefs. On the fourth day, there were plans for a dance to send off the Upper class for the 5th day. As the man and women begin to wrap up their days work, they would hear noises down near the keel again.* "Une fois que la danse commencera, Maria, tu seras de garde, Catherine et moi commencerons à charger les sacs de Blue Blood dans les bateaux. Une fois que nous aurons terminé, nous vous récupérerons et nous pourrons ensuite partir. J'ai compris?" *Both women will nod.* "Champ Magnétique!" *The man and women head to the side of the Starboard of the ship.* "I am on deir side." "I can't stand dese people anymore." "A old bastard dropped his newpapa, I pick it up, and he hit me in the back with his cane. Told me "You can't read, dis isn't for ya." "As I was cleanin, a white child hopped on ma back and started yankin my hair, I was about to tell her to stop and de Mom started yellin at me to know ma place. I almost want to join'em." "Glad to hair you are on board!" *The two turn around to see the three women standing behind them.* "Zose cuillère en argent bastards 'ave been robbing ze working class for too long, w'at are your names so I can properly greet you?" "Ma slave name was Venus, but I don't go by dat anymore." "I neva had a name. My Masta's said I wasn't worthy" "Ah, I take it ya both just got your freedom?" "We spent our entire lives as slaves, we are on the run for a better life." *The three women smile* "We have moair in common zan you zink. We weair brought ovair to marry a group of Men against our will. Zey would abuse us, so we did something about it... and now we aire heair.." *The man and women will pause for a second, as their eyes widen. They nod in acceptance.* "So what are your names?" "I am Tierna, the short hair one is Catherine, and the long hair girl is Maria. They... butter both sides of the Baguette." "No Worries, ma Auntie did too." *Maria will grab a half cent from her dress* "Here's your money back. I like to practice before scamming the Upper deck." "Keep it. I was more upset at de cheating." *She nods her head as a thank you.* "Let's make a deal. If you keep quiet about what we're doing, we will pay you once you get to Houston." *Tierna will extend her arm for a hand shake, and the woman, followed by the man will shake her hand.* "Champ Magnétique!" *Hound tells Ahiga to stay for now. Check out the town, go to the Saloon or General store. Hound heads to the Farm and meets Jesús. As they are repairing the farming equipment and tending the garden, at High Noon, they hear a loud noise back in town. They run over and think the noise is coming from La Salon Des Rose. They see a carriage with a Confederate Flag on the side. *Zaiyuan and Jesús jump into the fight. Augustin gets on the man's back and attempts to choke him. His neck is incredibly thick, making it difficult to get his hands around him. The man raises his right fist and begins to bring his fist like a Sledgehammer. Zai will grab a chair and swing upwards towards his fist. It deflects his fist as Jesús grabs his Elbow and begins to bring it back.. The man lets go of Ahiga with his left hand and swings at Zai. Luckily, Zai is able to avoid the punch and give him a kick in the stomach. The man doesn't flinch as Ahiga takes the leg of a broken chair and begins hitting him in the knees. He will begin to fall on one knee, when he punches Jesús back, grabs Augustin and throws him at Zai, grabs a bit of the broken table and swings and chases Ahiga. Rose grabs a bottle from the counter and throws it at him, hitting him in the head, in an attempt to distract him. The Man turns to Rose, as he begins swinging at Rose. She will dodge out of the way, as she grabs mug after mug, hitting him and shattering. Ahiga will grab him at Rib level, and try to hold him back. The Man will slam his fist down on Ahiga, and then grab them and throw them into rose, breaking the liquor bottles., Jesús and Augustin run on what tables are left and manage to elbow him in the back, causing him to fall over. Ahiga gets up, then Rose gets up. She runs to locate her gun as Ahiga, Zai, Jesús, and Augustin beat the man up. The Soldier grabs his gun and points it at them, as Rose points her gun at his head.* "Get out ah my Saloon, get out ah my Town, and don't come back unless ya have a death wish". *The soldier puts his gun away. The gang releases the man. And as he walks out, he says* "I will return with my forces in 5 days. The confederacy will not lay down for this." *As he angrily returns to his carriage. Hound will be informed by Rose of who he is. She will explain that Jessie and Carson brought him here, and that Augustin and Ahiga did not like his attitude or the way he spoke to them, which eventually broke out into a fight. As she finishes, Rose will call [[a Town Hall Meeting]]. *As Hound leaves for Work, Sara hears Ahiga's shock at Hound's body. She is not surprised by their reaction. Who Hound is, amongst the town, is an open secret. *1858, A romantic Spanish song plays in the background. For the last 3 years, Sara has worked inside of the "La Salon Des Rose". She has been a waitress and has played the Saxophone for Mrs. Rose. This time, she is here for her own enjoyment. She enjoys the music, the drinks, and the food. As she sits back down at the Bar, she sees Hound. They have talked on again, and off again over the last 3 years. Hound, out of nowhere asks for a dance. WIth the help of Rose, she understands and can fully communicate in english. Every week, Hound would show up ever since he was given the scarf. Bringing flowers, deserts, and candies. Rose would allow him to Court her, as long as he didn't do anything "The Lord was against." This time was different, this time, Hound would uncharacteristically asks, if she would like to be together.* “We can’t be together…” . “Why not?” “Dresses don’t really fit me.” “They can be altered.” “I’m too tall…” “Doesn’t matter.” “I smoke! I smoke all the time!” “I don’t care.” “I have a terrible past. For the last 3 years, I’ve been playing the Saxophone for Rose.” “I forgive you.” “I can never have children.” “We can adopt some.” “You don’t understand… I’m a man.” ”Nobody’s perfect.” *With that, she was in tears again. As if she had heard this for the first time again. It was the first time she had felt love for who she was and that she was worth love. Later that day, she received a message, saying everyone needs to the [[Town Hall Meeting]]. Back to [[Choose your Story]]

*As you walk into The Red Canyon General Store. He sees two White men playing Checkers out front. The first white man sips his cola* "Ya here the confederacy is havin a draft." *The second man scratches his chin before moving a piece* "Yea, sounds like hoo-y. I ain't gettin in no draft." *The first man thinks for a second before moving his piece* "I did ma time in the last en. Got screamed at enough by Joel." *They both spit at the ground at the same time after his name was mentioned before the second man says.* "He above the snakes, if ya ask me." "I wasn't askin, but ain't lyin." *They both laugh* *In the back corner of the store, he hears a couple arguing about the Civil war, and Arizona taking sides with the Confederacy. And finally, he hears rumors about the Union army kidnapping thousands of Navajo people. What they are doing with them is still a mystery. As he approaches the counter, a young Labrador Retriever lays next to the wall. As he calls Brown, he walks over to pet him before going to the Register. He sees a Chinese man at the register. His name is Zaiyuan. He is a few inches shorter. While he wears a button up shirt and Jeans, it is covered by his Apron. His hair is on the shorter side, and he has average looking facial features. His skin tone is on the lighter side, as he tries not to go outside too much. He speaks in a soft, but firm voice.* Welcome. Is it the usual tonight? Does Brown love Crab? *Brown's head raises up as they both laugh. *He gets to the Farm. Its a large acre of land, with a Barred fence around the house and Barn. It is late enough that all the cattle, the horses, etc. are in the barn and checked out for the night. As he steps on the porch and knocks on the door, he is greeted by a Hispanic man. His skin was on the darker side, he had long hair tied into a Ponytail, a thick mustache, and a very rugged face. He was on the older side, probably at least 5, maybe 10 years older. He always wears a silver locket. Normally, he wears his farming attire, but I caught him at an Awkward time, as he was in his Pajamas.* "Sup, Azul. You came for your dinero or did señora make extra?" *He says with a deep accent, and a grizzled voice.* "Just the dinero, I'll see if I can get ya a plate tomorrow Before work. I'll make sure ta get here at 4(am)." *Jesús smiles and makes a loud cheer, as he runs to grab the $14 for the month. *The hot, dry desert heat begins to roast your neck., A black male returns home to the town of Amor Eternno. He removes his hat to wipe the sweat off of your dark skin with his blue scarf in one hand, while maintaining balance of the person he found in his other hand. He knows he is of average height, but they are a little smaller than him. The sweat drips down his braids, and lands on the ground with a soft splash. He thanks his Gods that it wasn't a Bison or Buffalo he had to carry back. He brings them to his home, as his partner finishes making their Tortilla shells. Her cooking is incredible, He believes it can cure even the blackest of souls, and it will treat those with the darkest of hearts. He puts his hand on his generous belly, as his stomach growls. He rests his hat on a nearby cabinet, and then tends to the native's wounds. He suspects they can't be older than their late teens and that the wounds are still fresh. His partner, Sara, walks in, her skin isn't much darker than his, but she is also a little taller than him. She has long, pulled back, black hair and is in her favorite purpureus colored dress. She has more masculine facial features, and her voice is on the deeper side, but still sounds feminine. She asks you, in a somewhat heavy Hispanic accent* "Is it another Straggler you haulin, Perrito? Should I make 'em somthin?" *In a somewhat deep, masculine voice, he responds* I'd wager ya should. They was layin up on the other side of Canyon. They bless that I found'em. *She responds* "I would wager everyone who finds you is blessed." *She will kiss him on the cheek and then ask* "Are there any chores you need to finish before Dinner is ready? I just need about an hour." *He will think for a moment* "I think I need to [[Collect Water]], [[Go to the General Store]] to get supplies and see Zai, and [[Head to the Farm]] to see Jesús. *1855, the Sun blares down in the desert. The heat is intense enough to roast jalapenos. Sara was hundreds of miles from Mexico. She didn't know where she was or where she was going. She couldn't turn back, she could only go forward. She was more dehydrated than a prune, and her rations were out. Her only friend was her Mule, Edgardo. She prepares to accept Death, as she runs into Hound, traveling in the desert. He rides up to her on his Horse, Lady Luck. He gives her Water as she faints. She awakens in a Saloon is not familiar with, next to a Robust Black woman. Sara noticed she had a certain level of Pride in herself, something Sara felt like she lacked and could emulate. The woman sings a song in french, Sara doesn't understand it, but it is sung with a lot of sincerity and compassion, while still having a lot of pain in her voice. Sara then notices She dresses in Traditional Shaman garbs, with many rings on her fingers. Sara notices that she wears a gorgeous turban, but her Dreads are visible underneath along with her face. Her skin was as dark as Sara's, but very Beautiful. Sara couldn't help, but to compliment her.* Tienes una voz muy bonita y me encantan tus atuendos. *Rose smiles* I don't know whacha said, but dank you *Rose gives Sara a free meal and board, in exchange, she does some work around the Saloon. While she was fine as a Waitress, and she was improving at washing dishes, Rose handed her a Saxophone, and Rose taught her to play. Sara would be a quick learner and become excellent on the Saxophone. Sara did not know she had this talent and every night for the next 3 years, Sara would play the Sax and Rose would sing. Rose would teach Sara more and more about things like sewing and proper etiquette. Sara would teach her Spanish and help her cook food native to Mexico. They would even trade stories of spirituality Despite doing mundane housework, Sara felt a sort of liberation. She started to build more confidence in herself, and began to become happier. She was thankful that Hound found her, as she finally found a place she belonged.* *One day, she would bring Hound. He was full of injuries, as a pack of wolves attacked the farm. He would be covered in bruises, bites, and scratches. Sara would take care of him, and left him a blue scarf that she knitted him. From that day forward, he would always wear it.* *As she completes this thought, she finishes making the Tortillas and begins dipping them in oil. Hound returns home and [[helps make dinner]]*

*Redemption. Brotherhood. Regret. Forgiveness.* *Diary Entry: March 19th, 1849 Just arrived at Canyon de Chelly Mountain in Arizona. It has been over a year since the Mexican American War ended. And yet, I am still in fear. I am weak. I can't even call myself a man. I fear the day I run into that imposing, ball man again. I traversed the desert, navigated past the Natives, and I arrived at the gate of this town. It currently doesn't have a name, only about 10 people who live here. Hopefully, I can make a new home here. I will miss my family, but we all have our Crosses to bear.* *Diary Entry: July 27th, 1849 I built a farm. It keeps me busy and it helps service the town as it begins to populate, there is a new couple in town. They don't really seem to have names, but choose to go by [[Augustin & Rose]]*

*Hound and Jesús jump into the fight. Augustin gets on the man's back and attempts to choke him. His neck is incredibly thick, making it very hard to get his hands around him. The man raises his right fist and begins to bring his fist like a Sledgehammer. Hound gets in the way and is able to block and grab the fist. Jesús grabs his Elbow and begins to bring it back.. The man lets go of Ahiga with his left hand and swings at Hound. He hits him in the side of the head, like what feels like getting hit with a ton of bricks.. Hound flies back and crashes on a table before standing back up. Ahiga takes the leg of a broken chair and begins hitting him in the stomach. With his free hand, he continues to swing and chase Ahiga, as much as Jesus tries to slow him down. Rose grabs a bottle from the counter and hits him over the head to try to distract him. The Man swings his left arm behind him and knocks Jesús back and then grabs Augustin from his back and slams him on the ground. He grabs Ahiga and throws them behind the counter, breaking the liquor bottles. Rose begins to run as the man chases her. She turns back briefly, every so often to dodge his fists and swings. And every now and again, hits him with a Mug or debris. As he is about to catch Rose, Zaiyuan runs on what tables are left and manages to elbow him in the back. Rose runs to find her gun as Zai begins to distract him. As Zai ducks and dives, Hound grabs a broken stand from a stool and hits the Man in the back of the luck, causing him to fall on one knee. Zai begins to punch him in a flurry before the gang grab and pin him down. The Soldier grabs his gun and points it at them, as Rose points her gun at his head.* "Get out ah my Saloon, get out ah my Town, and don't come back unless ya have a death wish". *The soldier puts his gun away. The gang releases the man. And as he walks out, he says* "I will return with my forces in 5 days. The confederacy will not lay down for this." *As he angrily returns to his carriage. Hound will be informed by Rose of who he is. She will explain that Jessie and Carson brought him here, and that Augustin and Ahiga did not like his attitude or the way he spoke to them, which eventually broke out into a fight. Zai would use his connections to get more guns, bullets, and ammo. Augustin and Rose would send out messages to the spirits, asking for blessings, assistance, and guidance. And on occasion, the downfall of Voiden. The rest of the town would prepare by all the weapons and gear. On the last night, Ahiga will do a dance, asking the spirits for protection, Hound, Sara, Augustin, Rose, Jesús, and Zai will join in and assist. Before bed, Hound, Augustin, Jesus, and Zai will ask Ahiga to join them on 1 last [[game of Poker]]. *As Hound returns home, he gives Sara a kiss on the cheek and ask if there is anything he can do to help with Dinner. He chops the vegetables, watches the burner and stirs the pork while she grabs the Tortillas. Today, she is making chiles en nogada with a side of Chitlins. Hound will politely ask if he can put some aside for Jesús.* "I apologize for not askin sooner, he loves ya cookin..." *He is interrupted* "Of course he can.".*She giggles* "You know I always make extra, mi pequeño cachorro ." *Just as she finishes her sentence, the Native that was found has awakened. Their appearance is ambiguous. They have long feminine hair, but have more masculine facial features. Their body is more petite, but they have strong tone arms and legs. They have a White Shell in the back of their hair and wear a Turquoise serape, They will walk into the kitchen with the lights and panic as they see Hound and Sara.* "Calm down there...."*He will think for a second. Is it better to use English or Navajo? His Navajo was very rusty, but he remembered when he lived in their communes, they would speak English to him. As he thinks, Sara will make a plate, and then gesture for them to eat. They all sit down and begin eating.* *In a soft voice* Are you going to take me away?. *Hound turns away from the table and takes a spit take, before he nearly chokes on his food.* "The Navajo gave me a home when I came out here. I would neverdo that" "I don't know them very well, but I trust Hound on this.". *She will then hold his hand* *With a great deal of Curiosity, they will ask.* "Give you a home?. *Hound will clear his throat then take a deep breath* "About 10 years ago, I was runnin from my past, so I headed West. Scuttlebutts was sayin folks like me could make a decent livin. So traveled from Arkansa, got halfway through Texas when a bounty was put on my head. Got through New Mexico, but soon, I was found. Landed near that Navajo village up the Canyon. They chased me before a group of Navajo saved my keister and took me in. I spent a few years with 'em. Eventually, I found this town and decided to live here. *He will start to become a little angry and say* "I like to think I am a very lucky man... Sanford..." *Hound will clutch his left fist and a little blood will come out. Ahiga will be confused as to what Hound means, before Hound will take a moment to realize he never greeted them and his mood will completely shift..* "I am Hound, sorry for not introducin myself." *He will stand up and reach over with his right hand to shake their hand. Sara will wave and say* "Sara." *They will take a deep breath and then say* "I am Ahiga. I am Nádleehi in my Tribe. My tribe was captured by a group of White men. They wore very strange clothes, and carried flags that had these stars in the form of a circle with a couple that had made sort of an X on the outside, with the red and white stripes. *Hound and Sara will turn to each other, when they realize who it was. Ahiga will continue* "Before they were captured, I wanted to fight too, but I was knocked out. Next thing I know, I am here. *They begin to tremble and tears go down their eyes. Sara and Hound comfort them. Soon after Dinner, everyone goes to bed. Hound has a Guest room and a change of clothes. *An Ample dark skin Black women stands on the side of a Steamboat. She awaits the return of her husband. She appears to be Cautious and very nervous. She takes a deep breath to calm herself as she readjusts her gorgeous black scarf and dusts her Shaman garbs. She checks that her rings are accounted for and plays with one of her dreads a bit. As she continues to wait, her husband finally shows up.* "Wad took ya so long, Husband?". *With a slight frustration in her Haitian voice. With his Cajun accent, he replies* "I was gettin directions. Once we get off de boat, we'll be in Houston. San Antonio will be next, den Las Cruces, New Mexico, once we pass Arizona, we will be in San Francisco California. *She will breath a Sigh of relief* "And then we can be free". *They smile, hug, and then kiss each other.* *An extremely pale tall women, it did not appear to be natural and they could tell it was makeup, holding a suitcase in the shape of a coffin will shout in a French accent* "Whose feeling veinard! Roll ze dice and push your luck!" *She then begins shaking the dice and bites her lip, without smudging her black lipstick* "How about you, Monsieur! Madame looks like she has magnifique taste."*She flips her long back hair, with her hand that has a black ring on it, revealing her nose ring as she puts the suitcase down, and then gives a proper bow in her long black, dress,* *She blushes a little, smiles, gives a polite bow and says* "Oh dank you!". *before whispering under her breath* "Don't chu dare go ova dere ". *The man will strut with confidence before placing a half-cent on the table.* "Oh, big spend-er!" *As Augustin and Rose traveled through Texas, they arrived in San Antonio in about 9 days. Once they arrive in town, they stop at a general store to pick up more supplies. Once inside, they see a very tall man sits next to him. He is well over 6 feet, his skin is as pale as a Ghost. He wears a black hat, a black uniform that signifies he is a Sergeant. .* "Well, yall don't look like locals. What'cha here for?" "We are here for supplies, we don't want trouble." "But you came to my town, maybe you are escaping something. Unless you are wantin something." *He moves his hand, in an attempt to grab Rose, but she grabs his hand mid way through with her left hand and slaps him with his right.* "Oh, I like a woman with some fire. You know, I am a war vet. So you should be showing me some respect." "Respect this." *He punches the man in the cheek, and knocks him over. They grab as much supplies as they can, enter the carriage and go off. The man grabs his gun and shoots, but he only manages to graze Augustin on his shoulder. Soon after, their carriage begins to break down. They realize the man shot one of the wheels while they were in town. A group of Native Americans pass by. They sigh, thinking they will be attacked, but they wave at them and ask to come over. They tell them they are a part of the Coahuiltecan tribe, and offer them food and a place to stay. They agree, and the Coahuiltecan help repair their carriage and they help out the Coahuiltecan for a day in return. They hop from town to town, saloon to saloon and [[begin to talk]] while in New Mexico.*

*The wood of the Rolling Pin clanks against the Floury corn dough of the Tortillas. They continue to be stretched, then folded, and then stretched again by a Tall woman, in a purpureus colored dress. She ties her black hair back, as to not interfere with the rolling process. She recalls a time in her childhood, when she was told it was "Not appropriate" for her to be in the kitchen. She thinks about her mamá, yelling at her.* "¡Te lo he dicho mil veces! ¡Este no es lugar para chicos! ¡Cocinar no es algo de lo que los chicos deban preocuparse! ¡Ahora vete fuera y estate con los otros chicos!" *She begins to roll faster. She calms down, at the memory of her Abuela. Abuela had a beautiful and comforting smile. She wouldn't judge Sara, and would actually teach her.* "Ahora, Patro, al rodar, quieres eliminar la mayor cantidad de aire posible, pero tampoco quieres que quede demasiado Fina o se romperá al meterla en aceite. Pero si se rompe, no pasa nada. A base de errores se aprende." *She slows down once she remembers Abuela's words. She hears the door open as she takes a break to check. She sees Hound, carrying another Straggler with him.* *Hound is a black male, he has dark skin, but Sara's is darker. He wears a blue scarf that she gave him on their first date. He is of average height and a little shorter than Sara, and under his 10 gallon hat, are braids that go to about his ears. Her voice is on the deeper side, but still sounds feminine. She asks you, in a somewhat heavy Hispanic accent* "Is it another Straggler you haulin, Perrito? Should I make 'em somethin?" *In a somewhat deep, masculine voice, he responds* I'd wager ya should. They was layin up on the other side of Canyon. They bless that I found'em. *She responds* "I would wager that everyone who finds you is blessed." *She will kiss him on the cheek and then ask* "Are there any chores you need to finish before Dinner is ready? I just need about an hour." *He will think for a moment* "I think I need to Collect Water, go to the General Store to get supplies and see Zai, and Head to the Farm to see Jesús. Thanks, Mi princesa!" *And he will kiss her back before heading out, keeping the child at home.* *As he leaves, Sara is taken back to [[How They Met]]*

*As the dance started, it was a formal ball. The upper class men would wear tailcoats, formal trousers, and top hats and the women wore voluminous gowns with crinolines, elaborate hairstyles, and gloves. The main deck folks were stuck working as servers, cleaning staff, and ushers. Maria would stand near the Stern, watching for people. Catherine and Tierna would begin moving the cargo to the lifeboats. On occasion, someone would attempt to leave the room and the Man would block them off. Telling them he is cleaning that area. Later, a white man would attempt to force himself to leave the dance for some fresh air, and the woman would stop the man, asking for some assistance tying her shoe, lifting her skirt slightly to reveal her Ankles. The man would become too distracted and lose track of what he was doing and would go back to his wife. The women made sure to only steal $500 worth of cargo and to only hop around and not take it from 1 source. They did not want to raise suspicions too high, and it would be stuff that the rich people would think they left home instead of running a full investigation. The next morning they would reach Houston and there was a lot of chatter amongst the upper class about possibly missing stuff, but didn't care enough to run a full investigation. Once the man and women arrive, they go to the nearest saloon and find Tierna, Maria, and Catherine.* "Champ Magnétique! We are women of our word! Here is your cut!" *They each received $100 and the black women received the black women's turban. The man would also receive $100 and a note. Thanking the both of them for being vulnerable people.* "He's a keepair by ze way. Reminds me of my ex-husband in France, his name was Augustin." "Augustin... I like dat." *Tierna will laugh* "I dink I will go by... Rose." "Atta girl! Champ Magnétique!" *A man will walk towards Tierna and will tell her it's her turn to sing. The three women will get up and go towards the stage.* "Zis was a popular song when I was a child. It zis called "Smile to Ze World.". *On the 5th day, Rose and Augustin will stand in the center of town, waiting. The rest of the town will be standing by the windows, on top of the roofs, around doors and corners, except for Ahiga, will have a Bow and arrow, with a spear at the ready. The children and their mothers were taken to the former Navajo village, in the hopes of not being found or caught. Each person that was still there was given a proper burial over the course of the 5 days, with everyone assisting and honoring them the best they could. All together, around 25 people remained in town. Joel and his men will show up in Phaeton carriages. At least 2 dozen carriages appeared, each with 4 men walking out. Upon stepping out, Joel will yell to Rose.* "Surrender now, and your village will be saved by The Lord! You and every colored folk can live with your lives, as our slaves. Even the Native kid! We aren't above saving any soul!" *Everybody will become angry* "We've spent many years findin' freedom. We ain't gonna give it up 'cause some no-nothin gump in this blighted country thinkin dey still own us. Dis country was build by our backs, and we owe it nothin'. You must be dull as dishwater if you think we wanna be saved." *Frustrated* "Then how do any of you think you will get into heaven?" *Ahiga will shout* "If Christianity is the only way to heaven, I would much rather go to Hell.". *Rose will smile* *Joel will pull out his pistol, point at Rose* "Then I'm your Huckleberry." *As the soldiers begin to point their rifles at Rose, Rose and Augustin will dash to the nearest building. As they open fire, the bullets graze or miss Augustin and Rose. The people on the roof begin lighting the string attached to the barrels filled with Gunpowder. Led by Jesús and Hound, a group of men will stand near a bunch of barrels* I am WAY too old for this, Azul. *Jesús cracks his back.* If we live this, we eatin Sara’s Pozole, by the way.. *Hound will finish his stretches, as Jesus will give a loud yell before throwing the barrels as quickly as possible. As the carriages explode, the flames and debris spread to other nearby carriages, as the flames begin to spread further, the ammunition carts are hit, causing further explosions. The debris and flames spread to the soldiers and the buildings. The flames will slowly spread on the buildings as the water team, lead by Sara, puts out the flames. Joel will begin yelling to attack the people on the roof, as people with Cocktails around the corners begin throwing cocktails at any and all soldiers. Some of the people on the roof were shot, and eventually killed, the soldiers would begin to drop and roll. The debris and flames spread to the soilders and the buildings. The flames will slowly spread on the buildings as the water team, lead by Sara, puts out the flames. Joel will begin yelling to attack the people on the roof, as people with Cocktails around the corners begin throwing cocktails at any and all soilders. Some of the people on the roof were shot, and eventually killed, the soliders would begin to drop and roll. *Hound awakens and goes down stairs. He is shirtless as he gets to the door. Ahiga walks out of their room after hearing a noise. They see Hounds back and are shocked. Hound finishes putting his shirt on.* My fault for the noise. Was headin to work. What do you do? I work on a farm with my friend, Jesús. *As the Town Hall is assembled in what is left of the Saloon. They wait about 45 minutes, before getting a head count. Only about 37 of the 50 Citizens were there. Rose could wait no longer as she asks Augustin to begin the Blessing to protect them. Augustin will go into a room by himself to perform the ritual. Rose will alert the town of the incoming invasion of the Confederate Soldiers. One man suggested they call up the Union. This was shot down, as their town in the past, as well as currently, are helping the Navajo. One woman will suggest asking for help from another Local tribe. Ahiga will point out that many likely received the same fate as their tribe, and if they didn't, they would need to be convinced to help. It is unlikely they will receive help in time Sara will stand up.* This town has created new life for us. It has allowed us to start over and become new people. I'll be damned if I will let some Gringos take it from us! I think we should fight! *Hound will proclaim* "I will protect the town! Forever and Ever! Until I die!". *The rest of the town will agree, and join in. Rose will then ask how they go about Fighting. *Date Entry: January 20th, 1852 We were invaded by a group of Bandits, they threatened to kill us all if we did not give them all of the women, but Rose stood up to them. She challenged the leader to a Standoff, but the leader said he refuses to fight women. So Hound took her place. During the standoff, they walked 10 paces and shot. The atmosphere was intense, the tension high like a lost balloon from a child, we stared, terrified of the result. The boom from the guns went off, and Hound was shot, but the bullet was stuck in a flask. When we looked at the Bandit, he spit out blood and then fell over. The bandits honored the agreement and left. I asked Hound about the flask, and he said it was a gift from his wife. It was a Silver Flask, with a Rose in the middle, with two large thorns in the bottom stretched out under it. The thorns sort of create a heart shape underneath the rose, and the rose appears in the form of just petals, with no stem. It was a rather gorgeous flask, it is a shame it no longer works. It was at that moment, Rose said "You can thank me later.". It turns out, Hound missed and Rose had hid and shot him with his rifle. ¡Qué día! ¡Ja ja! On that day, we named Rose the Mayor of our Town. Date Entry: November 12th, 1852 A carriage was passing by town, going to California for the Gold Rush. They asked for directions, evidently, they were scared of the Natives attacking. We assured them that the natives were very peaceful, but they didn't have it. They asked for a guide and Azule suggested himself. They weren't too pleased about someone like him wanting to help, but we told them they would be on their own. They accepted, but were very unhappy. A few weeks later, Hound returned. He was not very happy at first, but he said it got easier and eventually, they arrived and they apologized for what they said. I am very happy for them. Date Entry: March 3rd, 1853 I could tell he had a long journey ahead of him, but he began to change over the last 2 years. He began to smile more, he began to treat others better, he started to grow compassion. Eventually, he started going out into the desert every so often to check if there are people out there. I had a Farm to take care of and watching the Sun carry itself across the sky, like a Torch to a Podium, then watching the Moon rise opposite to it in the twilight sky from across the desert was just too incredible. Viejo should use their time to appreciate life, in my opinion. Soon after, Hound would meet a [[Chinese Man]] in the desert.*

*He helps Augustin bring in the water to the Saloon, and you hear a woman's voice singing in the lobby.* “Je souris à l’étoile qui au ciel encore luit, Au soleil qui lentement nous sort de la nuit, A ce jour qui commence, à l’oiseau qui m’enchante, je souris au monde et le monde me sourit.” *The woman singing is Rose, she is a Robust Black woman. She stands with a certain level of pride in her work. She sings with a lot of sincerity and compassion, while still having a lot of pain in her voice. The room is mesmerized by her voice. She dresses in Traditional Shaman garbs, with many rings on her fingers. She wears a Turban, but her Dreads are visble underneath. Her skin is dark, but very Beautiful. As she continues to sing, Augustin pours him a glass of Whisky, as they chat for about 30 minutes. Augustin pays $6 for the month. Rose will alert the town of the incoming invasion of the Confederate Soldiers. One man suggested they call up the Union. This was shot down, as their town in the past, as well as currently, are helping the Navajo. One woman will suggest asking for help from another Local tribe. Ahiga will point out that many likely received the same fate as their tribe, and if they didn't, they would need to be convinced to help. It is unlikely they will receive help in time Sara will stand up.* This town has created new life for us. It has allowed us to start over and become new people. I'll be damned if I will let some Gringo's take it from us! I think we should fight! *Jesus will proclaim* "I will protect the town! Forever and Ever! Until I die!". *An expression of shame and fear covers Hounds face.* *The rest of the town will agree, and join in. Rose will then ask how they go about Fighting. As she begins to run through the houses, she is attacked by a Confederate Soldier, before Brown bites his leg and then Sara hits him with a frying pan. Rose continues to run, as they all follow Joel into the desert.* *Hound will stay back, watching his friends go out. He will hear 3 faint gunshots, before they come back.* *With half of the confederate men slain, a quarter are greatly wounded, 8 are incapacitated, and the remainder surrender.. Zai and his group surround them, guns pointed, as Rose and Augustin walk up to them. They beg for aid. Rose, begrudgingly, gives them aid. The town heals whoevers wounds need it and they treat the incapacitated. Once everyone can stand on their feet, they thank them for their aid and Rose tells them to leave. They ask how they will get through the Desert. Jesús will respond.* "You pray." *As they march into the desert.* *The total number of casualties: 48 confederate Soldiers. 13 Civilians. A proper sending was made for all of those who fell at the battle of Amor Eterno. An honorary Plaque was made for civilians who fell during the battle. The plaque can be found at “La Salon Des Rose”, under the first Rule of Rose. "You must earn absolution, it should not be given.".* *Hound will stare at the plaque, ignoring everyone who comes by. As he returns home, he lies in bed. Sara will approach him.* ”Is everything okay?” ”I did nothing when the soldiers showed up, I stood back when you motivated everyone to fight back, and I let everyone else take care of Joel. I am nothing, I don’t deserve to be here.” ”You are more than that. Nobody expects everything from you, just to do a little better each day. I didn’t think much of you when you told me about what happened to your family in the past, but you are always helping the town, you are always working hard with Jesus, you save people everyday, you don’t need to be everything to everyone, I just want you to work towards being the best version of you. Bettair luck next time!." *The black women will nudge the man, tell him to stop and will give him a look, indicating he should think about what was just said.* "Nous savons ce que tu as dit, tricheor". *The pale woman will pause for a second as her eyes widen. She quickly pockets the dice and grabs her suitcase.* "Bon voyage!" *She is surprisingly nibble in her dress, as the man and women struggle to catch up to her. They both stop, out of breath and then lose her.* "Dirty (30) years in the fields and we lost some paltonier. "De boat isn't dat big, we will find her.". *As they search, they navigate out of the midship, past the cabins, and eventually get to the Keel. They get to a door that cracked open and see two other women who were similarly dressed, one being a tall black woman and another being a short white woman with makeup that made her skin look pale. The white woman looked like her hair was dyed black and was about shoulder length and she possesses a black ring, similar to the other women. The Black woman wore an incredible Turban over her head with a Rose pin in the middle. The black woman speaks to the white women* "Quel est l'êta?" "environ cinq jours" "Champ Magnétique! Ha!" *The man and women begin to slowly walk away and back up the staircase, hoping to not draw any attention. They hear footsteps coming to the door as they start speeding up to get to the main deck. The two women exit the door. They look around and hear a door closing and begin to follow. The man and women manage to get back to the main deck and, hoping nobody saw them. They whispered to each other, as other passengers began to cough loudly near them.* "What do you dink dey were doing down dere?" "I don't know, do we stop dem?." "How do we stop dem?." "I just don't know...". *They hear the two women come by. The man and women began to blend into the crowd, as the main deck was full of others of a similar complexion . As the man and women lay low, the two women give up and walk away. The man and women begin to talk again.* "Being second class saved us, but we can't keep living like this.". "Everyding will be betta when get to California." *They hug [[the next day]]*

*As Hound returns home, Sara will receive a kiss on the cheek and be asked if there is anything he can do to help with Dinner. She asks Him to chop the vegetables, watch the burner and stirs the pork while she grabs the Tortillas. She tells him that today is chiles en nogada with a side of Chitlins. Hound will politely ask if he can put some aside for Jesús.* "I apologize for not askin sooner, he loves ya cookin..." *He is interrupted* "Of course he can.".*She giggles* "You know I always make extra, mi pequeño cachorro ." *She will think about how happy it makes her to know that others enjoy her cooking, it makes her feel like she has come so far. Before she can finish her thought, the Native that was found has awakened. Their appearance is ambiguous. They have long feminine hair, but have more masculine facial features. Their body is more petite, but they have strong toned arms and legs. They have a White Shell in the back of their hair and wear a Turquoise serape, They will walk into the kitchen with the lights and panic as they see Hound and Sara.* "Calm down there...." *Sara is aware that Hound knows Navajo, but as far as she recollects, that was many moons ago. Sara will make a plate, and then gesture for them to eat. They all sit down and begin eating.* *In a soft voice* Are you going to take me away?. *Hound turn away from the table and takes a spit take, before he nearly chokes on his food.* "The Navajo gave me a home when I came out here. I would neverdo that" "I don't know them very well, but I trust Hound on this.". *She will then hold his hand* *With a great deal of Curiosity, they will ask.* "Give you a home?. *Hound will clear his throat then take a deep breath then explain how he knows the Navajo, Sara knows it is a very touchy subject for him, as Hound's story sort of haunts him in a way, due to Sanford vs. Dred Scott. Hound will clutch his left fist and a little blood will come out. Ahiga will be confused as to what Hound means, before Hound will take a moment to realize he never greeted them and his mood will completely shift..* "I am Hound, sorry for not introducing myself." *He will stand up and reach over with his right hand to shake their hand. Sara will wave and say* "Sara." *They will take a deep breath and then say* "I am Ahiga. I am a Nádleehi in my Tribe. My tribe was captured by a group of White men. They wore very strange clothes, and carried flags that had these stars in the form of a circle with a couple that had made sort of an X on the outside, with the red and white stripes. *Hound and Sara will turn to each other, when they realize who it was. Ahiga will continue* "Before they were captured, I wanted to fight too, but I was knocked out. Next thing I know, I am here. *They begin to tremble and tears go down their eyes. Sara and Hound comfort them. Soon after Dinner, everyone goes to bed. Hound has a Guest room and a change of clothes. Hound tells Ahiga to make themselves at home and He and Sara will help them however they can. [[Everyone will head to bed]]*

The man was assigned to clean the Gentlemen's side and the woman was assigned to clean the Ladies side. As they would clean, they would be hurled insults by the upper class, they would be degraded and ridiculed. On occasion, a child would make a mess and their parents would tell the children not to worry, and would, on occasion, make it worse on purpose. At night, the man and women would comfort each other, praying for the ride to be over. Another day passes, and they continue their duties. The food they would receive would be the leftovers from the upper decks, if they were lucky. It would be days old, stale, and disgusting. As people would go hungry, the woman in black dresses mysteriously showed up. They passed out fresh food to the main deck and told them to keep their secret. The man and women would take the food and pretend they know nothing. The three women would grow suspicious, thinking about following them, before choosing not to act.* [[Day 3 & 4]]

*Date Entry: June 15, 1860 We found her! Smiley was so happy! It gave me much joy! But the paid she experienced... Azul and Noble said that it was similar to how they were treated. She actually considers herself one of the lucky ones. She had a rebellious spirit and was often sold when she wasn't being harmed by her masters. One the last payment, he skipped town and left her there with his brother. But she gave such a strong resistance that it was impossible to sell her again. A sicario was hired, but she fought him off and he lost his courage. Then a Hatchet-Boy was employed, but he gave her the money and she used it to flee. She went down, hoping Mexico could free her, but she gave up when she got to Tucson. It's where she found a Golden Retriever. They call him "Brown.", and he is a very good dog. He lays his back against a rock, and smiles, looking at Jesus.* “So The Savage came back to finish the job. Only took ya 15 years.” *Jesus will think back to the Scissors. That last night, he pulled the string, knowing what might happen next.* ”You killed my family, you looted and destroyed my village.” “Because you let me! You ran! War is the only way to see the strength of a man! I didn’t leave your family! I wasn’t the Snake in the grass that left when things got tough! All I did was claim the spoils owed to me!” *Hound will remember, that he also abandoned his family too, and that is why he came to this town, to turn over a new leave. He remembers the kindness everyone showed him, and that he can be more and be better than his past.* *Joel will cough up some blood and will spit it at Jesus. Jesus will punch him in retaliation* “That’s right, Savage. You will never be more than that.” *He will gleefully smile* *Hound will angrily interject* ”You abandoned your men! Who are you to talk!” “That was a strategic flight. You see, a man like me has a reputation to uphold. If word got out that I lost, or worse, slain by a town full of… You… My reputation would be destroyed, I would be an outcast. A nobody! No better than...” *Hound will interrupt him* ”You’re a bottomless well of contradictions and hate. You are beneath the Vultures, and don’t deserve the maggots that will be on your corpse. *Joel will begin to laugh* “My heart and actions are utterly pure… Everything I do is for Just-” *Rose fires a shot into his head, killing him.* ”If he could be reasoned wid, he wouldn’t be layin up a rock., dead. Come’on, we have ta get [[home]]. *Zai will finally chime in* ”Gǎi xié guī zhèng." *They will all turn to him, confused.* ”It means "Turn over a new leaf". But not every man wants to.
